Privacy Policy

This page explains what Hollow Wise keeps about you, where it is kept, and how to delete it. It covers our public website and app. Hollow Wise is run by its founder.

The short version

Quick Clean needs no account. It sends nothing about you to our database.
With an account, we keep what you tell us, so your rooms and routines are there next time.
No ads. We do not sell your information. Google Analytics counts visits, and you can turn it off.
Nothing in the app uses AI. Fixed rules read your answers, not an AI.
You can delete your account yourself, at any time.

Quick Clean without an account

Quick Clean is free and needs no account. Nothing you do in it is saved to our database.

If you pause, your place is kept in this browser tab only. Closing the tab clears it. It is not linked to a name, an email address, or an account.

If Google Analytics is on for you, it counts that a Quick Clean was started or finished, and for which kind of room. No name or email goes with it.

Your account and logging in

There are no passwords. You log in one of two ways.

With your email. We email you a 6-digit code and a login link. Each works once and expires in 15 minutes. After 5 wrong tries, a code stops working.
With Google. We ask Google only for your email address and Google's ID number for your account. We never see your Google password.

We keep:

your email address, and your Google ID if you use Google
when your account was made
for each login email: your email address, a scrambled copy of the code and link (not the real ones), when they were made, when they expire, when they were used, and how many wrong tries there were

What we save with your account

When you are logged in, we save what you tell Hollow Wise, so it is there next time:

Rooms: which rooms you have and what you call them.
Answers: your answers to home and room questions. We also keep a history of changes: the old answer, the new answer, and when it changed.
Routines: the routines built from your answers, steps you removed, where you stopped, steps you skipped, when you finished, and how often you have done each one.
Account settings (all optional): what to call you, your pronouns, age range, household size, region, whether there are pets or kids in the home, and a private note. Your name and pronouns show only to you. The note is stored exactly as you wrote it. Nothing reads, sorts, or acts on it.
I'm Overwhelmed: the one or two things you picked, kept with the routine they made.
Routine guidance: how much detail each step shows (Full, Short or Title only).
Accessibility: choices like avoiding kneeling, reaching overhead or lifting, seated steps, lighter loads, low-scent products, quieter tools and gentler-on-hands options.
Handoffs: the steps you shared, when the link expires, which steps were marked done, and whether the person accepted or declined.
Supplies: which supplies you use, any you add yourself, how each one is doing, when you last checked, and a history of changes to which supplies you use.
If you type a brand name into your supply list, we save it with your account.

We do not store your IP address or device details with any of this.

Handoff links. A Handoff shares some steps with someone else. Anyone with the link can open it for 24 hours, without an account. They see only the shared steps. They do not see your email, your other rooms, your household settings, or your notes. They can mark steps done, and accept or decline. If they are logged in, they can copy the steps still left into their own account. That copy is then theirs.

We only keep a scrambled copy of each Handoff link, not the link itself.

What stays on your device

Some things stay in your browser on this device. We do not sync them to your account. When you start a saved routine, the app sends the choices needed to build and track that run, as described above:

your Stray Solutions starting choice and the sessions you finished in each room
the order you dragged your routine cards into
whether you hid the "Resume" line on a room page
how far you got through a set of room questions
where you were inside a step of a routine
whether you have answered or passed today's question on Home
whether you have visited before
your paused place in Quick Clean, or in a Handoff someone sent you (this tab only)
a copy of the "You're offline" page, if you add Hollow Wise to your home screen

Logging out or deleting your account does not clear these. Clearing this site's data in your browser does. It does not delete anything saved with your account.

Cookies

Login cookie. When you log in, we set one cookie holding a random code. We keep only a scrambled copy of it. It lasts 30 days, or until you log out. Scripts on the page cannot read it.
Google return cookie. If you log in with Google, a short cookie remembers which page to bring you back to. It lasts up to 10 minutes.
Google Analytics cookies. If Google Analytics is on for you, it sets two cookies that tell one visitor from another. They hold a random number, not your name or email, and last up to two years.
Your Google Analytics choice. If you say yes or no to Google Analytics, a cookie remembers it on this device for about 13 months. It holds only your yes or no.
New account note. When you make an account, a short cookie notes whether you used email or Google, so Google Analytics can count the new account once. It lasts up to 10 minutes.

Hollow Wise does not set advertising cookies.

How we use your information

to show you your rooms, routines and progress
to choose which steps you see, using fixed rules we wrote (not AI)
to log you in and send your login emails
to share steps with the people you choose

We do not use your information for ads. Hollow Wise does not sell personal information.

Companies that help us

Cloudflare runs our website, app and database, stores our blog pictures, and sends login emails. Like any web host, it handles your IP address and browser details to deliver pages and keep the site safe. It also keeps short-term technical logs so we can find and fix problems.
Google handles your login only if you log in with Google. Our email inboxes also run on Google Workspace, so if you email us, your message is kept there.
Google Analytics counts visits to the website and the app, so we can see which pages and routines get used. It gets the page you opened (with anything personal taken out of the address), your browser and device type, roughly where you are (Google works that out from your IP address), and a few moments: starting or finishing a Quick Clean or a routine, making an account, and using I'm Overwhelmed. Google also counts, by itself, when you scroll near the bottom of a page, links you click that leave our site, form use and file downloads. It never gets your name, email, room names, answers, accessibility choices or notes. Its advertising features are turned off.
Mailchimp is used only if you join the Hollow Wise email list. Your email address, and anything else you choose to give when you join, is stored by Mailchimp so we can send those emails.

There are no advertising tools on the website or in the app.

Our site links to other sites, like Instagram and YouTube. What you do there is covered by their own privacy policies.

Deleting your account

Open Account from the ☰ menu and choose "Delete my account" at the bottom. After you confirm, we delete your account, log you out everywhere, and delete everything saved with it: rooms, answers and their history, routines and progress, account settings, Handoffs (their links stop working), your cleaning audit, and the records of your login emails.

A few things are not removed by that button:

Copied Handoff steps. If someone copied your shared steps into their own account, that copy is theirs.
Things on your device. See "What stays on your device" above.
Backups. Our database host keeps backups for a limited time, so deleted data can remain in them until they expire.
Our email list and inbox. Use the unsubscribe link in any list email. Email us to delete messages you sent us.

Asking for a copy, a fix, or deletion

Email privacy@hollowwise.com to ask for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to delete it.

Children

Hollow Wise is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
